How might we integrate comprehensive wellness strategies within the app, combining exercise, nutrition, and recovery, to promote holistic health and muscle maintenance for aging adults?

Strongevity is an easy-to-use app designed to help you focus on building muscle and living a longer, healthier life. I created Strongevity because I believe in the power of fitness and wellness to improve your day-to-day. I put a lot of thought into making sure Strongevity is simple, effective, and helpful for anyone looking to boost their health journey. Let’s explore how Strongevity can support your goals towards a stronger and more vibrant life.

"I've spent too many years stuck in the same sedentary routine, feeling like I'm not really living my life to its fullest potential. I want to make a change, to get moving and build a healthier life for myself, but finding the right way to start has been overwhelming. I'm looking for something that can guide me step by step, motivate me, and fit into my life without feeling like a burden. It's time for me to turn a new leaf." - Anthony, 53

INTERVIEWS

In the process of creating Strongevity, I conducted 5 user interviews with individuals aged between 31 to 69, spanning from beginners to seasoned fitness enthusiasts. Their experiences showed the importance of crafting an app that's straightforward and intuitive. Everyone, regardless of their fitness level, emphasized the need for simplicity in navigating the app, wanting clear guidance and support for their workouts. They also expressed a desire to track their fitness journey easily, highlighting how vital it is to see their progress.

AFFINITY MAPPING

Helped to identify overarching themes based upon all the data collected from the user interviews.

KEY INSIGHTS

The following key insights were identified for this project:

  • A strong desire for customized fitness and nutrition plans.
  • Concerns about injury prevention, the importance of proper technique, and the need for safety guidelines tailored to each person.
  • Daily motivation and accountability is desired.

personas

The two personas represent the research findings by stating the goals, motivation, challenges, and the expectations they have. These came in handy during the entire process to insure that the product was still on track to provide solutions for the user goals.

ideation.

How might we

....design an app that tailors workouts, recognizing the unique physical considerations and safety needs of adults over 35 to effectively support muscle gain and maintenance.

....How might we integrate comprehensive wellness strategies within the app, combining exercise, nutrition, and recovery, to promote holistic health and muscle maintenance for aging adults?

These HMW's are based from the key insights from the research and the goals of the user personas.

Storyboarding

I sketched out a visual representation and considered the different goals and benefits the product has for the user.

TASK FLOWS, USER FLOWS, AND SITEMAPPING

For Strongevity, I created a clear, user-friendly sitemap based on user research, highlighting the need for easy navigation and personalized content. The app is organized into sections like Workouts, Nutrition, Wellness Plans, and User Profiles to meet different health goals.

For Strongevity, each User Flow and Task Flow is engineered for simplicity and intuitiveness, focusing on essential interactions such as signing up, mapping out workouts, and selecting recipes. This approach minimizes user effort, encouraging a smooth and engaging experience within the app.

The design intentionally removes complexity, making it straightforward for users to integrate the app's resources into their daily routines. By clarifying these pathways, Strongevity promotes an environment where managing health is intuitive, thereby fostering a direct route to wellness

WIREFRAMING

Low fidelity

Keeping in mind all the feedback as well as user and task flows I began putting ideas to paper.

Mid fidelity

After sketching out ideas I turned the sketches into digital gray-scaled wireframes. This is a crucial step since it is a great setup for when it's time to do Hi fidelity wireframes.

High fidelity

These are the wireframes that represent a finished product that can be used for prototyping and be tested with users.

USABILITY TESTING

After going through the usability test results for Strongevity, I felt encouraged by what's working well and enlightened about what needs improvement. It's gratifying to see the positive reactions to the recipe content and overall navigation ease. However, the feedback also highlighted a few crucial points for me to focus on.

What worked

The overall content and concept of the app were well-received, especially the variety and quality of recipes provided. The signup process was straightforward for most users, indicating a solid foundation in account creation usability.Navigation and Color Scheme: Andrea highlighted the usability and aesthetic of the app, particularly mentioning the colors and ease of navigation

FINAL REVISION

A couple revisions were made based on the feedback and insights from the usability tests.

WHAT CHANGED
  • Clarification on Icons vs. Buttons: Multiple users attempted to interact with images rather than buttons, suggesting a need for clearer distinction or guidance.
  • Feedback on Text Legibility: Robbie suggested darker writing for better contrast, indicating an accessibility and readability issue.
  • Incorporated a ‘back’ button.
  • Added workout description.
  • Added Cookbook icon to nav bar.

NEXT STEPS

  • Initially centered my attention on the mobile experience, carefully crafting mid-fi wireframes for a more expansive desktop version.
  • Looking ahead, I'm eager to polish these desktop designs to high-fi brilliance while fine-tuning the mobile interface for seamless cross-platform harmony.
  • My roadmap includes more usability testing to confirm intuitive navigation and flawless interaction on both mobile and desktop, ensuring every click brings satisfaction.
  • Reflecting on my journey, I've embraced high-fi testing with open arms. Yet, I'm now keen to explore the untapped potential of feedback from mid or low-fi wireframes at earlier phases.
  • As part of my creative exploration, I've begun a bespoke collection of icons, aiming to enrich and diversify our visual language to beautifully match the variety of exercises our app supports. This endeavor is not just about aesthetic appeal but about forging deeper connections with users through every element they interact with.
